The Cowtown Way: Field Safety as a Habit
Standard commercial fields can feel crowded and heavily restricted. Our expansive outdoor landscape provides the ultimate real estate for open movement, creative strategy, and immersive gameplay. To maintain a top-tier playing environment, we expect all participants to understand the fundamentals of safe equipment handling and mutual respect on the field.
1. Essential Protective Gear (Your Personal Shield)
Before you head out to eliminate the opposing team, your protective setup needs to be locked down. This isn’t just about avoiding a sharp sting; it’s about keeping you in the game.
- Paintball Masks: Face and eye protection are entirely non-negotiable. Paintballs travel fast, which is why full-face paintball masks or impact-rated safety goggles must be worn at all times while on the field. To ensure maximum defense, all facial gear must comply with ASTM standards.
- Chest Protectors: Highly recommended to absorb impacts to the torso, managing the sting of oncoming rounds so you can keep moving and pushing the line.
- Proper Apparel: We recommend a solid pair of active running shoes or boots, a heavy hoodie or long-sleeve shirt, and sweatpants or heavy gym shorts. Dress for both the high-desert elements and the reality of the sport.
2. Mandatory Check-In & Safety Screening
We build our community on trust, but we always verify readiness to ensure a seamless experience downrange. Before setting foot on the dirt, all players must pass a safety check.
During this process, our expert referees verify equipment and safety gear at check-in to confirm your marker’s velocity is tuned properly and your protective equipment is secure. To maintain an environment where everyone can play hard with peace of mind, players unable to handle equipment safely or wear proper safety gear will not be allowed on the field. It’s all about ensuring everyone has the capability and gear to stay safe.

3. Field Rules of Engagement
To preserve the freedom to play hard without unnecessary restrictions, our community relies on clear, firm protocols.
- No Full Auto: To keep gameplay fair, strategic, and fun for everyone, no full-automatic markers are permitted on our paintball field. Running full auto will result in a suspension from the field for the remainder of the day. Keep it semi-automatic and make your shots count.
- Proprietary Paint Only: For the safety of our players, spectators, and referees, outside paint is strictly prohibited. All paint must be purchased directly from Cowtown Range to ensure it meets our safety and environmental standards.
Rental Packages, Ammunition, & Logistics
Whether you are a seasoned player with a custom setup or a first-timer organizing a weekend outing with friends, we have straightforward pricing options to get you on the field quickly. As a core amenity, we offer free compressed air tank refills all day long with the purchase of any field entry or rental package to keep your marker powered up and ready for the next round.

The Flow of the Game & Field Design
At Cowtown, our unique Woodsball setup isn’t just for looks; it’s an intelligently mapped layout designed to optimize safe lines of sight while offering plenty of strategic cover for dynamic movement. We understand how fields, firing angles, and players operate because we’ve been managing elite outdoor shooting real estate since 1973; head over to the About Cowtown Range page to read the story of how our facility grew from a historic Hollywood Western set into the premier outdoor destination it is today.

Game Structure
Each individual match runs for roughly 10-15 minutes. We run 3 fast-paced games back-to-back, and then head off the field for a 10-minute staging break. This gives you time to reload your paint, top off your air tanks, clean your lenses, and grab a drink before the next rotation.
Staging Area & Guest Guidelines
Safety protocols matter just as much when you’re taking a breather between matches.
- Waivers for Everyone: Every player and spectator must have a completed online waiver filled out before arriving at the property. No exceptions.
- Food & Refreshments: Playing hard under the Arizona sun requires proper fuel. You are welcome to bring outside food and beverages to keep your energy up, but absolutely no alcohol is permitted on the premises. We provide plenty of picnic benches for lunch and for storing your gear while you play.
Own Your Shots and Secure Your Line
Safety at Cowtown Range isn’t about arbitrary limitations or restrictions that slow down the action. It’s about building clear, professional-grade habits that allow the community to self-govern, play hard, and keep the energy entirely uninhibited downrange. By checking your equipment, wearing your protective platforms, and respecting your team’s boundaries, you contribute to a top-tier playground where accountability reigns supreme.

Paintball Safety Rules FAQ
What are the age requirements for paintball at Cowtown Range?
Cowtown Range hosts standard full-size paintball packages for players ages 10 and up. For younger participants ages 6 to 9, we provide the low-intensity Splat Master Package, which uses smaller .50 caliber paintballs and lightweight, spring-loaded markers for bruise-free fun.
Can I bring outside paintballs to Cowtown Range?
No. Outside paint is strictly prohibited at our facility for safety and environmental compliance reasons. All ammunition must be water-based, easy-wash paint purchased directly from Cowtown Range.
What happens during the check-in safety screening?
All players must pass an equipment and gear verification check handled by our field referees before being allowed in the play zone. Referees check paintball marker velocities to ensure they fall under our FPS maximum velocity cap, inspect structural integrity, and confirm that all eye protection is impact-rated and securely fitted. Players who cannot handle the equipment safely or refuse to wear proper gear will not be permitted on the field.
Are full-automatic paintball guns allowed?
No, full-automatic markers are banned on our 1-acre field to maintain tactical balance, fair play, and strict safety discipline. Anyone running full-automatic platforms will be suspended from the field for the remainder of the day.
Do spectators need to sign a waiver to enter the staging area?
Yes, every single individual who sets foot on the property—including active players, casual participants, and non-playing spectators—must have a completed online waiver submitted prior to arrival.
Can we bring outside food, drinks, or alcohol?
You are fully welcome to bring outside food, snacks, coolers, and non-alcoholic refreshments to keep your crew energized under the sun. However, alcohol is strictly forbidden anywhere on the property. Free picnic benches are provided in the staging area for your convenience.
