Why Choose Our Handgun Safety Course Over Others?

Master the Basics: Why Cowtown is the Premier Destination for Local Handgun Safety Training

Most handgun training follows a predictable, frustrating pattern: you’re confined to a cramped indoor booth, restricted by “one shot per second” rules, and monitored by a safety officer who treats you like a liability rather than a student. It’s hard to build real-world proficiency when you’re stuck in a sterile environment that doesn’t account for the mechanics of your platform or the reality of a defensive scenario. You don’t just need a lane; you need the freedom to actually train.

At Cowtown Range, we’ve traded the fluorescent lights and concrete walls for the high desert of Peoria, Arizona. Our facility serves as a bridge between basic gun ownership and elite mastery of a craft, offering the kind of rugged “real estate” usually reserved for professional operators. Whether you are just starting your journey or you’re a seasoned shooter refining your draw, we provide the mentorship and the space to help you own your shots.

In this guide, we’ll break down how our veteran-led instruction, tactical infrastructure, and focus on practical handling set a new standard for handgun safety training.

The Cowtown Difference: A Professional Training Environment

Proficiency isn’t built in a vacuum. It requires an environment that allows for movement and technical application. Our workshops are designed for the adult practitioner who values self-governance and high standards. We provide the landscape; you provide the discipline.

Elements of our training approach:

  • The Mentor Approach: Our instructors don’t just recite manuals. They deliver direct, actionable guidance on ballistics and mechanics rooted in years of lead sent downrange.
  • Tactical Infrastructure: Our expansive bays allow for holster work and target transitions—scenarios that a standard indoor range simply can’t replicate.
  • Technical Precision: We teach you to understand your handgun as a complete system, ensuring you have the confidence to manage the platform under any conditions.

Learn From Veterans of the Craft

The quality of your training is only as good as the person standing at the front of the line. Cowtown has a decades-long legacy of hosting elite professionals, from Hollywood stuntmen to world-class special operators. When our team provides instruction, it comes from a place of deep, professional experience.

Our instructors are seasoned veterans, many with backgrounds in Military, Law Enforcement, and competition shooting. For shooters who value the insight of a mentor who has navigated high-stakes environments, Cowtown offers a level of credibility that is premier in the Valley.

Hands-On Training: Experience in the Elements

Theoretical knowledge is a starting point, but true skill is forged in the dirt, the wind, and the heat. Our private training and group workshops emphasize the practical reality of shooting in the natural elements of mother nature.

Practical Firearm Handling

In our workshops, we prioritize the skills that translate to the real world:

  • Platform Mastery: Gaining a deep understanding of the mechanics and controls of your specific system.
  • Skill-Based Approach: Our workshops break down the fundamentals, building the core competencies that make you a well-rounded, capable shooter. Every drill is designed with purpose — refining your technique until consistency becomes second nature.
  • Environmental Variables: Training in the Arizona sun teaches you to manage external factors, like heat and wind, that affect every shot you take.

Working through drills in our tactical bays allows you to join a community of like-minded shooters dedicated to the highest standards of marksmanship.
